Ok, today was a free day for me, I just needed to do a few minor things before the tour... Get some more SD Cards for my camera, (now have another 32 gb) battery for the blu tooth keyboard... (old ones started to go flat! Duh!) And most important... update my mobile SIM's, anyway after talking to the morning crew in the hotel, (they have been looking after me very well) probably due to the heavy tipping, and talking to them about cricket!
I asked there where to get a SD Card... they said, 1km down the road... you can get everything... so I headed off... little did I realised the previous night it had a few thunder storms (probably would explain the power cuts during the night).... so... walking though a bit of mud... I was off...
Rickshaw drivers.... kept asking me... if I wanted a ride... just Kept telling them! I'm walking! Using my pigeon Hindi! I found my first "Air-tel" outlet to recharge my mobile... recharged the mobile.... but he couldn't do the data, for my tablet... was like duh!... told me I would need to call "Air-tel" helpdesk or find a "air-tel" showroom... and pointed me into another direction.... I continued on walking... past lots of unique stores, streets were busy with people.... but not overwhelming, trying hard not to say hello to everyone... that just stairs at me... I found another air tel store... that pointed me in another direction... I continued walking... snapping a few shots along the way.... amazed with the use of old singer sewing machines, and the repair, maintenance of them... there were teams of stores.... that serviced these machines, along with stores using them.... note: these are manual 1920 vintage machines, that don't have POWER...
Finally I found a Air Tel store... went in... asked them if they could help me.... not a problem.... I did take a bit of time to recharge the SIM's 20-30 mins... with him calling the call centre... brought tea etc.... and it was ALOT cheaper than what I originally expected.... 450 rupees for 2 gigs 3g roaming data, and 250 rupees for 1 gig roaming data for my mobile... I was pretty happy...
Next... I had enough of these little stores! I headed off to a "shopping mall"... took a Rickshaw, as it was a few km away, and I had no ideas where I was to start with!... mall was interesting... had to go though a metal detector and I was searched before entering... bag was searched... mall was pretty well empty... I finally found a store where I got some SD Cards... another 16gb x 2, had to check in bags before entering the stores.... invoices, and purchased items where checked on exiting also... prices are really cheap here...
Visited a "supermarket" I guess kind of store... metal detector to enter... interesting bits.... sealed off "Non Veg" section... rest was pretty similar, except for the checkout operator's, at home, it's 95% women, here it's all men! Chatted to a few more people, was warned about New Delhi...so I best be on guard there...
Anyway here are the pic's before I start to pack for tomorrows flight to New Delhi!
